The National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) has recognized Frederick
County Public Schools with two 2017 National School Communication Awards. The
school division’s website earned an Award of Excellence while the
2015-16 Frederick County Public Schools Annual Report was
recognized with an Award of Merit. NSPRA, whose mission is to advance education through
responsible public relations and communication that leads to success for all students,
represents communications professionals from school districts across the nation.
Frederick County Public Schools Coordinator of Policy and Communications Steve
Edwards says, “There were nearly 950 entries in NSPRA’s National School Communication
Awards Program this year, so it is a great honor to have Frederick County Public Schools
recognized with two awards. Both the school division’s website and the Annual Report
represent the work of many people, particularly Communications and Digital Design Specialist
Lora Jarrell and Secretary Amy Scott. Having our school division’s website recognized is
particularly gratifying after all of the work that’s been done to redesign and improve it over the
past 18 months. Our previous website platform was cited as a major weakness in a
communications audit conducted about two years ago, so we have made great progress in that
area.”
Schools Superintendent David Sovine says, “Communication and community
engagement are critical as we continue our work to develop community support and
partnerships in order to help our students prepare to become successful, engaged citizens. Our
school division is fortunate to have individuals in various departments who work together with a
singular focus on keeping our students, parents, staff and the community informed of the many
good things taking place in Frederick County Public Schools as well as the challenges we are
working to overcome. Everyone involved in these efforts should take great pride in their work
being recognized at the national level.”
