Millbrook High School has named Steve Grubbs its new varsity boys’ basketball coach. Grubbs, who has worked as a social studies teacher at James Wood Middle School since 2011, succeeds Robert Trent Harris. Harris resigned last month after leading the Pioneers to a 38-11 record over the past two seasons.

Grubbs has served as a basketball coach in Frederick County Public Schools for a number of years. Over the past two seasons, he’s coached Millbrook’s junior varsity boys’ basketball team. In 2016-17, he served as an assistant coach for Millbrook’s varsity boys’ basketball team. In addition, Grubbs has coached the boys’ junior varsity team at James Wood High School as well as the seventh and eighth grade boys’ and girls’ basketball teams at James Wood Middle School.

Millbrook High School Coordinator of Student Activities Scott Mankins says, “We’re looking forward to Coach Grubbs assuming the leadership role for our boys’ basketball program. He’s been involved with Millbrook basketball for several years and has developed a good rapport with our players and understands our school community. I expect he will do an outstanding job, build upon the success we have enjoyed over the past several years and serve as a positive role model for our student-athletes.”

Grubbs says, “I’m appreciative of the opportunity to lead the boys’ basketball program at Millbrook. I have a passion for basketball and working to help students improve themselves as athletes, students and members of our community. I’m quite familiar with the players that will be returning to the program next year and look forward to the challenge of building upon the success the program has enjoyed in recent years.”
